Andrew was friendly, polite, prompt and resolved the issue in one visit despite it being a difficult job to problem solve. Great service, highly recommended.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Refreshing to have a tradesman that does what he says he will and when he says he will do it. Garry is now my new AC guy and i would not hessitate to recommend him to anyone.

Portable vs Fixed AC Units

When it comes to home cooling, should you choose a quick-to-move portable unit or a high-performance fixed system? At Allstar Air Conditioning, we help homeowners across London, Surrey, Sussex, and Kent understand the real differences between portable vs fixed AC units — so you can make the best choice for your comfort, budget, and space.

Portable AC Units – Pros and Cons

Advantages of portable AC units:

No installation required
Easy to move between rooms
Lower initial cost
Plug-and-play convenience

Drawbacks:

Noisy operation
Limited cooling range
Requires venting (usually through a window)
Higher running costs

Fixed AC Systems – Pros and Cons

Benefits of fixed AC:

Powerful, targeted cooling
Quieter and more efficient
Long-term value
Seamless appearance
Heating and dehumidifying included

Considerations:

Installation required
Higher upfront cost
Not portable

Energy Efficiency Comparison

When evaluating energy efficiency: portable vs fixed AC, fixed units win clearly. Inverter-driven wall units use energy more intelligently and reach desired temperatures faster — using less power overall.

Noise Levels and Comfort

Noise levels: portable vs fixed AC units often surprise people. Portable units can be loud (50–65dB), while fixed systems often operate below 25dB in quiet mode.

For bedrooms and living rooms, low-noise fixed systems are far better for rest and relaxation.

Installation & Cost Comparison

Portable units require no fitting but may need custom venting for best results. In contrast, installation requirements for fixed AC units involve wall drilling, condenser mounting, and electrics — but it’s usually done in one day.

Cost comparison: portable and fixed air conditioners:

Portable: £300–£600
Fixed (single-room): £1,500–£2,500
Fixed (multi-room): £3,000–£6,000

Long-Term Performance & Maintenance

Long-term performance of fixed air conditioning far exceeds that of portable units. Fixed systems last longer (10–15 years), maintain efficiency, and often come with warranties and service plans.

The Best Choice for UK Homes?

Choosing the best choice for UK homes: portable or fixed AC depends on your needs:

For short-term use or rentals: portable may suffice
For lasting comfort, quiet, and efficiency: fixed is the smarter choice
